‘PIRITH’ CHANTING & ‘HEEL DAANA’ AT RHQ VIR TO BLESS 32nd REGIMENTAL ANNIVERSARY

The all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting, a customary religious feature, organized by the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre on account of the forthcoming 32nd Regimental Day (22 March) got underway on 18 March 2022 (Friday), evening at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre premises by adhering all the guidelines that stipulated to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic. The chanting follows offer of ‘Heel’ Daana (alms) on the following day (19).

DESTRIBUTION OF DRY RATION PACKS TO ELDERS IN MALLAWAPITIYA ELDER’S HOME AND CHILDREN IN MALIYADEWA BOY’S HOME

Inmates at Mallawapitiya Elders’ Home were hosted to a delicious lunch by Officers and Other Ranks of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 17 March 2022 on account of its 32nd anniversary. 42 adults enjoyed the lunch and interacted with the troops while exchanging their good old memories. Some parents emotionally expressed their memories with the visitors treating them like their own sons and daughters. Officers and Other Ranks of the regimental staff participated in this meritorious event.

FORMAL FAREWELL DINNER BIDS ON THE RETIREMENT OF BRIGADIER KEERTHI WIJERATHNE

On 12 March 2022, revitalizing an age-old military tradition, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Centre hosted a farewell military dinner night by adhering all the safety measures stipulated by the Government and the health authorities to prevent the COVID- 19 pandemic, in honour of the retiring Brigadier D H K S Wijerathne RSP, an honorary council member of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and outgoing member of the Vijayabahu Seva Vanitha Branch Mrs.

VIJAYABAHU LADIES VISITED INMATES AT ARMY WELLNESS RESORTS

Coincide with the International Women’s Day which is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women and 32nd anniversary of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Mrs Kumudu Manage, President of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch and its members have initiated annual simultaneous visits to the wellness resorts of the Sri Lanka Army, under the patronage of the Director General General Staff, Commander Army Training Command and Colonel of the Regiment VIR, Major General S U M N Mana

NEW GENERAL STAFF OFFICER I (OPERATIONS/TRAINING) ASSUMES DUTIES

Lieutenant Colonel E M M S K Ekanayake RSP psc assumed office as the 6th General Staff Officer I (Operations/Training) of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on 28 February 2022 during a brief ceremony at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Lieutenant Colonel Mahinda Ekanayake was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 04 July 1998 and followed the basic military training as a Cadet Officer with Intake 48. After a successful training he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 17 June 2000 and posted to the 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

SERIES OF EVENTS LAUNCHED AT RHQ VIR WITH THE GRACIOUS PRESENCE OF THE COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT

On the guidance of Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General S U M N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre currently undergoes a series of construction projects by utilizing regimental reserve funds, saw simultaneous inaugurations on 19 February 2022 with the gracious presence of the Colonel of the Regiment amidst blessings of all Archers.

NEW DEPUTY CENTRE COMMANDANT ASSUMES DUTIES

Lieutenant Colonel B D T D Jayarathne psc assumed office as the 8th Deputy Centre Commandant of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) on 17 February 2022 during a brief ceremony at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Lt Colonel Thusitha Jayarathne joined the Sri Lanka Army on 27 Jan 1995 after completing his secondary education from Royal College, Colombo 7. On completion of his basic military training from Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant of the Sri Lanka Army and posted to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

BATTALION TRAINING OF 8 VIR BEGINS

The 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment commenced the Battalion Training on 14 February 2022 at 56 Infantry Division Battalion Training School, Pampemadu, Vavuniya. Official inception of the course was declared with the opening address conducted by the Commander 543 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier B I Assalaratchi USP psc, representing the General Officer Commanding 54 Infantry Division.

COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT RECEIVED FELICITATION GUARD OF HONOUR

Following its’ traditions and military formalities, Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre bids a felicitation ceremony to Director General General Staff, Commander Army Training Command and the Colonel of the Regiment VIR, Major General S U M N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc in a fitting ceremony, held at the VIR Regimental Centre at Boyagane, Kurunegala, giving pride of place to military formalities by adhering all the health precautions and guidelines stipulated to prevent COVID-19 outbreak on 14 January 2022.
