The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops the youngest and the one of the most elite infantry regiment in Sri Lanka Army added more strength to their Boyagane Regimental HQ on 21 October 2021 by fortifying it with a state-of-the art Parade Ground of high standards, thanks to the efforts of the VIR’s Colonel of the Regiment, Officers and All Ranks.

CEREMONY HELD TO MARK SRI LANKA ARMY'S 72nd ANNIVERSARY AT RHQ VIR

72nd Army Day lies on 10 October 2021 and as a practice formal ceremonies take place at each military establishment, with the guidelines of the Army Headquarters. Following the guidelines an iconic ceremony held with the patronage of Colonel of the Regiment VIR, Major General Sisira Pilapitiya at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala by adhering all the preventive measures for COVID-19 pandemic.

A VIR PARA-ATHLETE WILL REPRESENT SRI LANKA IN TOKYO PARALYMPIC 2020 IN JAVELIN THROW EVENT

Illustrating the sportsmanship of VIR and amplifying the fact that courage and skills cannot be surpassed by a physical disability, VIR Para Athlete Sergeant Hettiarachchi HACS has been selected to represent Sri Lanka in a Paralympic two times consecutively. He will compete in the Javelin Throw event of Tokyo Paralympic 2020 Japan held in August 2021and he represented Sri Lanka for the same event in Rio Paralympic 2016 Brazil.

NEWLY PROMOTED FLAG RANK OFFICERS VISIT COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT

Demarcating a qualitative enhancement of the organization and assuring the progressive upliftment of the cadre grading, twenty seven (27) Colonels of the Sri Lanka Army Regular Force conferred to the rank of Brigadier on 16 August 2021 on a directive of His Excellency the President with the concurrence of the Ministry of Defence and General L H S C Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc MPhil, Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.

VIR PROVIDES 'COPPARA' TO ILLUMINATE 'SRI DALADA PERAHERA' FOR 8th CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Paying obeisance to the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth Relic) in Kandy and the forthcoming annual Sri Dalada Perahera festival, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops donated more than ten tons of dried coconut (Coppara) for the 8th consecutive year on 09 August 2021 for the illumination of the Dalada Pageant adhering the guidelines stipulated to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak.
