ARCHERS EMERGED AS THE RUNNERS-UP AT THE INTER REGIMENT BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIP

Finals in the Inter Regiment Badminton Championship 2021 underwent on 09 December 2021 at the Panagoda Indoor Stadium, graced by Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda, Deputy Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Artillery, as the Chief Guest.

The preliminary rounds of the tournament began on 07 December 2021 to be competed by players in 11 Regiments and continued until the closing ceremony on Thursday (09). Total 4 Officers and 8 Other Ranks of VIR vied for supremacy during the tournament.

Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) emerged as champions and carried away the trophy while VIR players emerged as the Runners-Up. Second Runners-Up slot was acquired by the Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) players.

Subsequently, Major Nadeeka Paniyanduwa of 5 VIR and Major Nalaka Dahanayake of 9 VIR was titled as the Runner-Up Team in Double Male (over 35) category. Archers Badmintonists also emerged as the Runners-Up in Open Team category and Novices Double category as well.

VIR Badminton Committee, Lieutenant Colonel Mervin Fernando, Major Manoj Nissanka, Major Sarath Keerthiratne, and Major Nadeeka Paniyanduwa was specific in selecting players for this year's championship.
