  • “Troops of The Gemunu Watch and 18 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard Assist DMC in Containing Sudden Bush Fire at Baker’s Bend, Belihuloya”

    Under the directions of the General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division and the close supervision of the Commander 572 Infantry Brigade, a contingent of 01 x 20 troops from The Gemunu Watch (Nonperial Detachment) and 01 x 15 troops from the 18 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard swiftly engaged in fire suppression efforts in the Baker’s Bend area of Nonperial, Belihuloya, around 1230 hrs on 12 September 2025 as per the request made by the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) office in Ratnapura. The fire was totally contained by 2130 hrs on 12 September 2025 of the area around 50 acers

    .

    Their timely response and coordinated action significantly contributed to bringing the situation under control, preventing the fire from spreading into nearby forest reserves and civilian areas. This operation once again reflects the Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and the environment while working in close coordination with government agencies to respond effectively to emergencies.

  • NEWLY APPOINTED BDE COMD - 144 INFANTRY BRIGADE ASSUMED OFFICE

    Brig DS Walpita Gamage RSP assumed duties as new Bde Comd of the 144 Infantry Brigade on 10.09.2025. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the 144 Infantry Brigade extended their wishes to the newly appointed Bde Comd on the assumption of the duties in the new appointment.

  • DISTRIBUTION BOOKS AND SCHOOL EQUIPMENT TO SCHOOL

    A donation programme was successfully conducted by the troops of 9 SLSR on 10 September 2025 at Thumbe Secondary School, Kamburupitiya, during which books and school equipment were distributed to 94 children with the generous sponsorship of philanthropists. The event was held under the patronage of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General W S V Fernando USP ndc IG.

  • BODHI POOJA PROGRAMME

    A Bodhi Pooja programme was held on 07 September 2025 from 0930 hrs to 1130 hrs, in line with the Binara Poya Day, with the participation of the General Officer Commanding of the 61 Infantry Division, Major General W S V Fernando USP ndc IG, along with all senior officers, other ranks, and civil staff of the Division.

    Maj Gen MR Rasik RSP ndu assumed duties as new Dy GOC of the 57 Infantry Divison on 01.09.2025. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the 57 Infantry Divison extended their wishes to the newly appointed Dy GOC on the assumption of the duties in the new appointment.

  • THE OPENING CEREMONY OF NEWLY CONSTRUCTED WATER PURIFICATION UNIT IN KOHOMBAN KULAMA AT GALGAMUWA AREA

    To provide safe drinking water to villagers who are severely affected by kidney disease, the ‘Randiya’ water purification project commenced with the construction of a Reverse Osmosis plant on 30th May at Kohomban Kulama village. The initiative was launched under the guidance of the GOC, 57 Infantry Division and the commander, 571 Infantry Brigade, with the generous financial contribution of the Dr. Ariyarathnam Gobikrishna and the dedicated manpower contribution of 1 SLNG and 9 SLNG. This project was coordinated with the involvement of Major General (Retired) Ravi Rathnasinham, Brig Indika Karunanayake RWP RSP ndc and Lt Col Mahinda Ekanayake RSP USP.

  • TROOPS OF 572 INFANTRY BRIGADE PROVIDED ASSISTANT FOR CONTAINING SUDDEN FIRE OCCURRED AT EMBILIPITIYA MUNICIPAL COUNCIL GARBAGE STORING AREA

    As per the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, and under the close supervision of the Commander, 572 Infantry Brigade, a contingent of 02 x 20 troops from the 572 Infantry Brigade promptly responded to a sudden fire that erupted at the Embilipitiya Municipal Council Garbage Storing Area in Kadurugasara, Embilipitiya, at 1215 hrs on 27 August 2025. The swift and coordinated action by the troops was instrumental in containing the spread of the fire and minimizing potential damage to the surrounding environment and community. This timely intervention once again demonstrates the Sri Lanka Army’s unwavering commitment towards safeguarding the lives, property, and well-being of the public while extending proactive assistance during emergencies.

  • LECTURE ON MILITARY LITERATURE CONDUCTED IN PARALLEL WITH THE WEDNESDAY TRAINING DAY PROGRAMME

  • 144 INFANTRY BRIGADE TROOPS PARTICIPATION FOR A BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGN

    In commemoration of the 33rd death anniversary of the late Lieutenant General Denzil Kobbekaduwa, and in remembrance of the Tri-Forces and Police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation, the 23rd annual blood donation campaign organized by the Angoda Hiru Kirana Social Welfare Foundation was held on 10th August 2025 at 0900 hrs at Kotikawatta Somadevi Balika Vidyalaya.With the approval of the Commander Security Forces (West), and the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division and the supervision of the Commander 144 Infantry Brigade a team of 10 soldiers from 2(V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry participated for the blood donation Campaign.
