The 9th South Asian Karate Championship 2025 was held with grandeur at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium on the 5th and 6th of July 2025, attracting top-tier karate players from across the region. This prestigious championship served as a vibrant platform to showcase martial arts excellence and foster regional sportsmanship at the highest level.
Amidst intense competition, three outstanding sappers from the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers proudly represented the Sri Lanka National Karate Team and delivered an exceptional performance that brought great honour to the Regiment and the Sri Lanka Army. Their determination, discipline, and unwavering commitment to excellence were clearly reflected in their medalwinning feats:
• Sapper H M S D R Herath of 1 Field Engineer Regiment – Gold Medal in the 84 kg weight class, Kumithe Individual event
• Corporal T G T C Dayananda of 11 Field Engineer Regiment – Silver Medal, Team Katha event
• Lance Corporal W R S Fonseka of 1 Field Engineer Regiment – Silver Medal, Team Katha event
Their spirited performances demonstrated not only technical mastery but also the unity and synchrony essential in team disciplines. The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers takes immense pride in their achievements and commends these sportsmen for elevating the name of the Regiment and the Sri Lanka Army in the regional martial arts arena.
