Brigadier S P G Gamage RWP RSP USP officially assumed duties as the 7th General Officer Commanding of the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division on 09 October 2024, amidst formal military traditions. Upon his arrival at the Home of Sappers, Mattegoda, he was warmly welcomed by Colonel (Admin and Quartering) and Colonel General Staff of the Engineer Division and Commanding Officer of the 5 Field Engineer Regiment.
In keeping with military customs, the troops honoured the General Officer Commanding with a Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Subsequently, assumed duties with the blessing of Triple Gem and as a symbolic gesture, General Officer Commanding planted a sapling at the Division Headquarters to mark the occasion.
Moreover, a comprehensive briefing, covering the role and task of Engineer Division presented to the General Officer Commanding and he emphasized the importance of smooth functioning of the organization and the value of performing duties in effective way.
