FINAL JOURNEY OF 1ST REGIMENTAL SERGEANT MAJOR OF THE COMMANDO REGIMENT PRODUCED BY THE CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS

The military funeral of Warrant Officer 1 KWTK De Silva (Rtd) of 1 Field Engineer Regiment and the first Regimental Sergeant Major of the Commando Regiment who had served the country more than two decades took place Friday, 02nd August 2024 at Kanuwana General Cemetery, amidst a gathering of his military comrades and other mourners to bid farewell as dusk settled. The Centre Commandant, Colonel F Joseph USP represented the hierarchy of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and present at the ceremony, symbolizing the profound respect for the departed comrade.

This Warrant Officer was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army on 22nd April 1963 and posted the 1 Field Engineer Regiment after completion of basic military training. After following of basic commando course in 1979 and advance course in 1981, he was posted to 1st Commando Squadron under the first recruitment batch.

Displaying a high degree of professionalism and utmost commitment in discharging duties and responsibilities entrusted to him, this Warrant Officer was bestowed with Republic of Sri Lanka Armed Service Medal, Sri Lanka Army 25th Anniversary Medal, President’s Inauguration Medal, Sri Lanka Armed Services Long Service Medal and retired from the Sri Lanka Army on 24th December 1986. These honours reflected his honest and efficient performance of every duty assigned to him, exemplifying his commitment to the Nation.
