HANDING OVER OF USA GRANT EQUIPMENT TO SRI LANKA MILITARY

The United States Department of Defense Grand Aid Equipment Project has donated some essential equipment to the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force. The handing over ceremony was held at SLAF Base Katunayake on 12 June 2024. The 2 x Scorpion IL & LO Configuration Man-portable Hybrid Electronic Countermeasure (ECM) devices and 2 x 3XXX ECM Generic Vehicular Mount devices were donated to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. The equipment was officially handed over to the Chief Field Engineer's office of the Sri Lanka Army, Representing the Chief Field Engineer Lieutenant Colonel K K P Pussewela RSP SLE the General Staff Officer I and Major M J Salgadu RSP USP SLE the Commanding Officer of the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment attended the ceremony on behalf of the Sri Lanka Army. The Defence Attaché of the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka, Lieutenant Colonel Toney Anthony participated in the ceremony as the United States of America representative.

These two equipment will facilitate the Sri Lanka Army EOD troops in the disposal of IEDs which can be operated remotely. The Army EOD operators have faced significant difficulties due to the shortage of portable ECM jammers. With the donation of the Scorpion IL & LO Configuration Man-portable Hybrid ECM the EOD operators will be capable of disposing of remotely operated IEDs without the risk of being blasted by terrorists during the disposal process.
