5 FIELD ENGINEER REGIMENT BUSY WITH FLOOD RELIEF OPERATIONS IN GENERAL AREA HANWELLA AND AVISSAWELLA

Troops of 5 Field Engineer Regiment in response to flood relief operations rose to the occasion from 02 June 2024 and promptly facilitated the safe movement for civilians and provided assistance for distributing packeted meals for over 3000 displaced civilians due to flood.

Due to continuous rain in the Western province, the water level in General Areas of Puwakpitiya, Pahathgama, Labugama and Suduwella has risen up and due to its impact, a large number of civilians and many villages in the Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat area were threatened with flood as their areas got inundated causing difficulties.

5 Field Engineer Regiment troops provided humanitarian and disaster relief operations under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding 14 Infantry Division and the supervision of Commander 142 Infantry Brigade. Moreover, along with the Commanding Officer 5 Field Engineer Regiment, 05 x 75 troops enabled the smooth conduct of the role of Army personnel in their attempts to evacuate the affected persons to safer locations.
