CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS SEVA VANITHA BRANCH ORGANISES A BOOK DONATION PROGRAMME FOR SOLDIERS' CHILDREN

In a heart-warming display of goodwill and charity, the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers organised a book donation programme on 28 January 2024, at the Regimental Centre, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. The initiative aimed to support 394 soldiers who have three or more children in their families by providing books to facilitate their children's studies.

The event, held under the patronage of Mrs. Shammi Jayawardena, the President of the Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, marked a significant step in fostering education among the children of soldiers. The ceremony included the active participation of a cross-section of selected children, accompanied by their fathers.

Honorary sponsorship for this benevolent initiative was granted by the Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers in collaboration with Mr. AP Jayarajah, the Chief Executive Officer of Nithyakalyani Jewellers (Pvt) Ltd. Their generous support underscores the collective commitment to the welfare and education of soldiers' families.

Among the distinguished guests present at the event were Major General S Ranasinghe (Rtd) RWP RSP ndu psc, former Colonel Commandant, and the Director General of the Disaster Management Centre. Additionally, Mrs. Iromi Ranasinghe, Past President of the Seva Vanitha Branch SLE, and members of the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers graced the occasion as guests of honour.

The book donation programme not only serves as a practical contribution to the education of soldiers' children but also highlights the collaborative efforts between the military community and private sector entities. As well, the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, through the Seva Vanitha Branch, continues to exemplify its commitment to the well-being of soldiers and their families, showcasing that acts of welfare and support can make a lasting impact on the lives of those who serve the nation.
