PSD TROOPS EMPOWERED WITH COMPREHENSIVE SKILLS AND IED IDENTIFICATION CONDUCTED BY ARMY EOD SQUADRON

In the current global scenario, having a profound understanding of both theoretical principles and practical knowledge concerning explosive identification and led identification stands as a crucial asset for military personnel. In response to the imperative need for such expertise, the President's Security Division (PSD) issued a request that prompted a strategic initiative.

Under the leadership of the Army Commander and the revered guidance of the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, under the supervision of the Chief Field Engineer (CFE), the 14 CBRNE Response unit (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives) collaborated with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squadron to meticulously organize a thoughtfully constructed two-day workshop. The foremost objective was to fortify the expertise of the PSD troops, endowing them with a comprehensive understanding of explosive and improvised explosive device (IED) identification.

Under the close oversight of the Commanding Officer of the 14 CBRNE Response Regt, a training team of 1 x 05 experts spearheaded this specialized section on 25 and 26 November 2023. The workshop skillfully intertwined theoretical explanations with practical demonstrations, delivering a comprehensive learning journey for all participants involved.

The theoretical segment encompassed an array of engaging lectures, meticulously structured to encapsulate the intricacies of explosive and IED identification. These sessions served as an intellectual foundation, equipping the attending 47 personnel from the Army's PSD with in-depth insights into the theoretical underpinnings of these critical subjects. However, what truly set this workshop apart was the practical demonstration section. Here, the participants were afforded a unique opportunity to witness firsthand the complexities and nuances involved in the identification of IEDs and explosives. This hands-on session not only complemented the theoretical knowledge but also provided a realistic understanding of the challenges faced in the field.

In essence, this workshop served as an invaluable platform, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. It stood as a testament to the Army's commitment to equipping its personnel with the necessary tools and expertise to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of modern security challenges.
