THE SRI LANKA ARMY CBRN IN ACTION WITH THE MARITIME ENVIRONMENTAL DESASTER IN COASTAL BELT AND LAGOON AREA -NEGAMBO BEACH CLEARING OP

The 14 Chemical Biological Radiology and Nuclear (CBRN) Response Regiment provide the CBRN assistance to clear the Negombo beach area which was polluted by waste of the Singapore registered container ship MV-X-Press Pearl anchored at 9.5 Nautical Miles Northwest of the port of Colombo. During the cleaning operation 14 CBRN Regiment SLE assist the Sri Lanka Port Authority , Marine Environment Protection Authority (MEPA) and Disaster Management Centre (DMC) along with available anti CBRN resources to avert possible catastrophic situation at the Negombo beach area.

2 x officers and 15 other ranks were employed for cleaning operation which was commenced on 27 May 2020 to assist the other sister servicers and Sri Lanka Army troops. Clear operation was took place along the Negombo Beach nearly 4.8km distance. Further, CBRN Regiment will provide their assistance until the termination of the operation.
