SRI LANKA ENGINEERS VESTS A NEW HOUSE TO A SOLDIER

A newly constructed house was declared opened as a result of the initiative by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army to build houses for the deceased and differently abled soldiers. The opening ceremony of the house was graced by the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General HRKP Peiris VSV USP ndu as the chief guest on 22 January 2021.

The newly constructed house was vested to Lance Corporal Somarathne KG(Retd) living with his wife and three daughters in great despair for a long time at Dambagalla, Monaragala. He was given this opportunity by the Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army General LHSC Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc under the House Construction Project (Phase V).

Construction of house was commenced on 26 February 2020 and it took around 8 months due to COVID 19 Pandemic. The project was completed even under the pandemic situation in the country due to the untiring commitment excelled by troops of 1 field Engineer Regiment with the direction of Commanding Officer 1 Field Engineer Regiment Lieutenant Colonel RT Ganegoda and under the supervision of Centre Commandant Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Brigadier M Mayadunna RSP USP.

Majority of the financial for conducting the project was provided by the Directorate of Veteran Affairs along with the contribution given by the 1 Field Engineer Regiment by providing local resources.

The Centre Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Brig M Mayadunna RSP USP, Commander 231 Brigade Colonel SPG Gamage RWP RSP USP, Staff Officer I (Veteran Affairs) Lieutenant Colonel HMP Herath, Commanding Officer 1 Field Engineer Regiment family members of the beneficiary and many villagers were present at the ceremony.
