MESMERIZING INAUGURAL CEREMONY AT ARMY CAMP MATTEGODA

Major General Jagath Gunawardena, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and declared open the newly constructed Officers’ Accommodation, Golf Course and the New Store Section of 16 Workshop Regiment SLE on 12 December 2020 at Mattegoda Army Camp Premises. The Chief Guest on his arrival at the 5 Field Engineer Regiment SLE was warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Gihan Thilakarathne.

This new accommodation complex was constructed by the troops of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, with the guidance of Major General Jagath Gunawardena and completed all construction works within a short period of time. New accommodation block consists with modern sanitary facilities for Officers of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

Sappers to be prepare for practical aspects of agrostology and land for sports, especially to support Sappers Golf Team, which won the 2019 Inter Regiment Golf Tournament, “New Golf Course" was introduced to SALEBA by Colonel Commandant of Corps of Engineers Major General Jagath Gunawardena adding more value to the training site and to learn many lessons from the game of golf.

New Technical Store Building of 16 Workshop Regiment SLE was constructed to uplift administrative facilities of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineer troops by increasing the efficiency of repairing works of Army C vehicles.

The Golf Pitch, Officers’ Accommodation area, Store Section of Workshop were declared open on 12 December 2020 keeping with COVID -19 safety guidelines with the participation of Senior Officers, including Major General Chandana Wijesundera, General Officer Commanding, Engineer Division, Brigadier Pradeep Gunawardena, Commander Engineer Brigade, Brigadier Mangala Mayadunna, Centre Commandant, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Officers and large gathering of Other Ranks were presented at the inaugural ceremony.
