CEREMONIAL FAREWELL ACCORDED TO RETIERING MAJOR GENERAL WANM WEERASINGHE RSP VSV USP ndc

Sappers family bids farewell to Major General WANM Weerasinghe RSP VSV USP ndc on his completion of 34 years of illustrious military career in the Army on 17 January 2020. The farewell parade held at Corps Headquarters with large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and the Other Rankers.

Major General Nevil Weerasinghe is a proud product of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala. He was enlisted to the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army on 31 October 1985 and after successful training was commissioned on 24 July 1986 as a Second Lieutenant and posted to the Corps of Engineers. Since his pass out the officer had to fight against the prevailed LTTE terrorism and his contribution throughout the period until it is eradicated their military mechanism completely from this soil is highly commendable. Being a determinant and courageous officer, during his tour of duty, he was able to held so many key appointments and few of them are Commander 582 Infantry Brigade, Principle staff officer at the Headquarter Sri Lanka Volunteer Force, General Officer Commanding 12 Division, General Officer Commanding 22 Division, Deputy Military Liaison Officer of the Ministry of Defence, Public Relation Officer to the Secretary Ministry of Defence and the 32nd Adjutant General of Sri Lanka Army. He was the first sapper officer who was appointed as the Adjutant General of Sri Lanka Army.

Major General Nevil Weerasinghe has been awarded the "Rana Sura Padakkama" on two occasions for his acts of bravery in the face of enemy during early stages of his career. Further to that "Utthama Seva Padakkama" has been awarded for his valuable service and devotion to duty marked with exceptional ability, merit and exemplary conduct. In year 2019, he was awarded the "Vishishta Seva Vibushana Padakkama" by HE the President for his exceptional, distinguished and loyal 34 years of unblemished record of conduct.

The farewell ceremonies included a Guard Turnout, Floral Tribute to Fallen War Heroes, Guard of Honour, All Ranks Tea and a Formal Dinner Night. Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineers and Mrs Sagara Gunawardena the President Seva Vanitha Branch of the Corps of Engineers together with senior officers, Officers and their spouses graced the occasion to extended their best wishes for the outgoing Major General.
