A deceased soldier’s family and a soldier sustained injuries due to a landmine explosion at Muhamalai, Jaffna were given new houses and the keys were handed over after simple ceremonies held at those premises itself on 08 June 2019.
Out of the two soldiers S/244079 Spr Sampath KKRI of 6 Field Engineers Regiment sustained injuries to his right leg on 24 March 2009 and presently serving at the Ranaviru Apparel Alawwa. He is blessed with two months old daughter and the house which donated was constructed by the troops of 4 (V) SLE at Kurunegala.
The other house was constructed by the troops of 15 (V) SLE at Talagala and donated to S/243923 Spr Priyadarshana PDR of 8 Field Engineers Regiment who was passed away on 09 December 2017 while serving at Regimental Centre Panagoda. He had lived with his spouse and two kids.
These two constructions were successfully done due to the donation made by Mr and Mrs Mohanashankar, true Sri Lankans who are presently work in Dubai. Having heard the welfare activities and the contributions to maintain peace and harmony by the Army in Jaffna peninsula, the lady and the gentleman has come forward to assist these soldiers who are in need of their assistance in different ways. Apart from this donation, the donors have funded to construct two more houses for differently abled soldiers of Sri Lanka Engineers in Kalurara and Kurunegala previously. Further, they have awarded number of scholarships to the children of the war heroes and some of the toilet fittings to construct the wash rooms of differently abled soldiers who sustained injuries during the conflict.
The Colonel Commandant Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Commander Security Forces Jaffna Maj Gen Darshana Hettiarrachchi, the President Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Mrs Ajantha Hettiarrachchi, members of the Seva Vanitha Branch, Centre Commandant Brig Ravindra Dias, Senior Officers and Officers of the Corps attended the event.
