SAPPERS ARE EAGERLY AWAITING TO CELEBRATE SINHALA-HINDU NEW YEAR FESTIVAL - 2016
Sinhalese New Year, generally known as Aluth Avurudda, is the new year of the Sinhalese & Hindu people in Sri Lanka. It is a major festival celebrated by not only the Sinhalese & Hindus, but also by most of the Sri Lankans. The timings of the Sinhala New Year coincides with the New Year celebrations of many traditional calendars of South and Southeast Asia. According to Sinhalese astrology, New Year begins when the sun moves from Meena Rashiya to Mesha Rashiya. It also marks the end of the harvest and spring.
Members of the Sapper family are preparing to celebrate the Sinhala-Hindu New Year along with new festival atmosphere in the country. Continuing its\' traditions, all members of Sapper Family already made arrangements to celebrate the new year festival 2016 at Mattegoda Army camp on 09 April 2016, Engineer Brigade Headquarters, Boo-oya on 17 April 2016 and Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering Embilipitiya on 23 April 2016.
Keeping the customs and traditions, different games of traditional and fun making for adults and children have been organized in respective venues.
The event will be organized and managed by Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch in Collaboration with Engineer Brigade at Boo-oya, Independant Workshop at Mattegoda and Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering at Embilipitiya respectively. Colonel Commandant, Organizing committee of the Sapper New Year festival, invite all Sapper Officers, Other Ranks and their family members to participate for the festival.
