A delegation from USARPAC HMA and embassy of USA visited to the Field Engineer Brigade on Wednesday, 20 November 2024. Delegation was warmly received by the Commander Field Engineer Brigade, Colonel HKP karunathilaka RSP.
The days programme commenced with a warm welcome by the Commander Field Engineer Brigade and followed by the SLA-HDU briefing. During the briefing delegation attained a general idea about SLA-HDU, current progress of demining and challenges that SLA-HDU facing. After the initial briefing delegation visited the Mankulam Demine Site conducted by 9 Fd SLE.
According to the programme, delegation visited the K9 Wing, received by GSO II K9 and briefed on the conduct of MDD operations and training, which was included with a MDD display and a visit to the MDD Cemetery.
The visit terminated with a Round Table discussion with the Brigade Commander and Staff Officers, that was aimed at sharing future assistance in training and acquisition of urgently required HDM equipment. At the culmination of the discussion Brigade Commander briefed the future plans of SLA-HDU and plans to uplift the standard of our deminers. To conclude the visit mementos were exchanged to appreciate the cooperation and expertise shared to enhance the field of Humanitarian Demining.
