The planning conference 2016 for Humanitarian Demining held at the Hq Engineer Brigade, Boo-Oya on 20 January 2016. The objective of visit was to provide assistance to Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Deminig Unit to improve and sustain its capacity in order to achieve the “Vision of Sri Lanka” through the challenge.\r\n\r\nUS Army officers, Lieutenant Colonel Luti Brian Paul and Lieutenant Colonel Kopelen Paul, and the Defence coordinator of the US Embassy were represented the delegation. Chief Field Engineer Brig DGI Karunarathna RSP psc, Commander Engineer Brigade and CO 8 Fd SLE welcomed diplomats and held a discussion focused on the possibilities to uplifting the Mine Action process.\r\n\r\nDuring the discussion, current problems of Mine Detection Dogs, repair and maintenance of mechanical assets and metal detectors, future training assistance for HDM, CBRN, EOD and GIS were focused in length. Furthermore, attention was given to the uplift veterinary medic capabilities within the Humanitarian Demining Unit.\r\n\r\nThe delegation visited MDD kennels and the Demining site at Mahamailankulam.
