As per the direction of Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, 12 Field Engineer Regiment has initiated two plant projects “Thamba Seru Vila and Siyoth Vila” at the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force new camp premises in Salawa, Kosgama. Two construction projects commenced and completed as follows and closely supervised by the Commanding Officer of 12 SLE, Maj GJP De Silva SLE;

A reservoir which is a prominent creation named “Thamba Seru Vila” has been constructed in a richly resourced wetland in the camp by carefully fostering its bio diversity. A passageway has been constructed around the reservoir facilitating troops to engage in physical fitness training enjoying the aesthetic beauty. The passageway has been named as “Thamba Seru Mawatha”.
The reservoir took its identification as “Thamba Seru Vila” because of its abundance with whistling ducks. This natural wetland has been the residence of whistling ducks for years and the entire land has been coloured with their fluttering sound of the wings and the musical utterances which indeed bring an emotional relaxation. Identifying this priceless resource from the nature, Commandant SLAVF took initiatives of developing this natural wetland as a reservoir which greatly contributes in maintaining the green concept and this creation indeed provides a source of inspiration for the rest of the organization and the country.

“Siyoth Vila” is a green concept of the Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, which has been developed locality inherits natural resources and wetland into a reservoir. The locality is abundant with birds and other creatures which are endemic to the area and it is a splendid place where anyone can console burdens and rest in calm and tranquility. This resourceful catchment area and water resource at “Siyoth Vila” nourish the paddy field and the cultivation of Akarawita village.
Accordingly, Two reservoirs declared opened by Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the commandant on month of April and unveiled plaques.
