Troops of 12 Field Engineer Regiment conducted mobile vaccination drive along with the Army medical troops to meet the vaccination requirement of elderly people above 60 years of age, sick, handicapped and feeble ones on 22,24, 25, 26, 27 and 28 in Walallawita and Palindanuwara and Beruwala Divisional Secretariat areas. The programme was launched on the directions of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff , Commander of the Army and Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), and the instructions of Commander Security Forces (West) Maj Gen DGS Senerath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division Maj Gen DG Hewage RSP.
This was closely supervised by the Commander 612 Infantry Bde Brig KLSS Liyanagama RWP RSP to ensure the programme meets the expected outcomes. Elderly persons who are over 60 years of age, sick, handicapped and feeble Persons who cannot visit the vaccination centers were able to have their vaccination at their doorstep with this effort. 971 persons were vaccinated with their first and second doses of Sino pharm and AstraZeneca vaccine.
The programme was able to successfully fulfill the vaccination requirement of the aforesaid divisional secretariat areas, which was a blessing for these people who were under the imminent threat of the pandemic. People paid their gratitude towards the troops for addressing their issues by reaching their doorstep despite the hardship encountered by the mobile vaccination teams. Similarly, 12 Field Engineer Regiment is continuing the contribution to the national Vaccination programme by providing the restless effort of all soldiers. This added new experience to the soldiers and their commendable service has been admired by the citizen in the area.
