According to the instructions given by the Directorate of Training and under the supervision and guidance of the Commanding Officer of 10 Field Engineer Regiment Lt Col WKST Kannangara psc SLE, 10 Field Engineer Regiment have successfully conducted a Corporal to Sergeant promotion course. The promotion course commenced on 18th of January 2022 and it has been scheduled to conduct within 35 working days and terminated on 28th February 2022 with the participation of 34 noncommissioned officers from 1 SLE, 5 SLE, 6 SLE, 8 SLE, 10 SLE and 11 SLE units.
Being senior corporals, sharpening what they learned during their basic training, sapper to lance corporals and lance corporal to corporal courses and corporal to sergeant course has been planned with Basic Tactics, Internal Security, Map Reading, Counter Insurgency Operations, Physical Fitness training, Weapon Training, Military Communication, Drill and General responsibilities of a Sergeant within a camp premises so that course can give rise to Sergeants with high graded military knowledge and leadership potential. During the course all the noncommissioned officers went on an excursion to Lt Gen Denzil Kobbekaduwa monument, Jaffna fort, Kandarodai archeological site and Dambakola patuna and finally, organized a campfire with the interaction of the Commanding Officer of 10 Field Engineer Regiment Lt Col WKST Kannangara psc SLE and all the instructors.
Being limited to 35 days of briskly schedule, reaching to such an aim was extremely challenging. “By linking structural self-development and the NCO education system to subsequent promotion course, we better prepare NCOs for the complexities of today’s operational environment while reinforcing the benefits of a deliberate, continuous, sequential and progressive professional development strategy” said the Commanding Officer of 10 Field Engineer Regiment, Lt Col WKST Kannangara psc SLE while commending the closing remarks of the course.
