THE SRI LANKA ARMY HUMANITARIAN DEMINING UNIT (SLAHDU)
The Sri Lanka Army Humanitarian Demining Unit (SLAHDU) learnt the pleasure of the presence of Lieutenant General (retd) Theodore G Stroup US Army along with the Lady Theodore S Stroup from the Marshall Legacy Institute of United States of America which is the institute pioneering the Mine Detection Dogs Training of the SLAHDU recently to Engineer Brigade Headquarters at Army Camp Boo-Oya. Lieutenant General (retd) Theodore G Stroup was a Sapper Officer from the Corps of Engineers of the US Army and presently working in the Marshall Legacy Institute in a capacity of a secretary responsible for propaganda.
Lt Gen Stroup paid the visit to the SLAHDU whilst on a personal tour to the Island and was received by the Chief Field Engineer and the Commander Engineer Brigade at Boo Oya on 10 February 2016. Firstly, the General and the lady were briefed about the present situation of demining operations and forum was open to a discussion where several important views had been exchanged.
Later, Lt Gen Stroup and the lady had observed the cemetery dedicated for the MDDs and were presented with a Dog show. Soon after that the delegation was accompanied to the demining site to observe the conduct of demining process at Mahakachchakodiya Demining Site, where 8 Field Engineer Regiment deployed its troops.
During the discussions between the delegation and CFE and Commander Engineer Brigade, the keenness of the Marshall Legacy Institute to continue its support to the Demining Program of Sri Lanka had been discussed. The Chief Field Engineer and the Commander Engineer Brigade too, took the opportunity to express the gratitude to the Marshall Legacy Institute for their assistance to the Demining program in Sri Lanka. The Colonel Project and the Commanding Officer 8 Field Engineer Regiment also present for the occasion.
Lt Gen Stroup and the lady departed the camp after a delicious luncheon decorated with a Sri Lankan authentic cuisine.
