In a commendable effort to promote health education and well-being, the Seva Vanitha Branch of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers organized a Breast Cancer and Non-Communicable Diseases Awareness Programme on Saturday, 26th July 2025, at the Regimental Centre, Panagoda.
This impactful initiative was held under the guidance of Mrs. Lilanthi Dolage, President of the SLE Seva Vanitha Branch, whose dedicated leadership and vision played a pivotal role in its successful execution.
The Breast Cancer Awareness session was conducted by Dr. Chula Gunasinghe and a professional team from the Indira Cancer Trust, Maharagama. The session was both informative and engaging, focusing on key areas such as the importance of regular self-examinations, recognizing early signs and symptoms, preventive measures, and the TLC method (Touch, Look, Check). A hands-on demonstration further enhanced participants' understanding of selfexamination techniques.
The second session featured an insightful lecture on Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) delivered by Major Darshitha Jothipala of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC). His presentation highlighted the growing impact of NCDs, their risk factors, prevention strategies, and the importance of lifestyle modifications.
The programme was well attended by around 94 participants, including members of the SLE Seva Vanitha Branch, lady officers, and other ranks. The sessions were highly appreciated by all attendees, who commended the initiative as timely, educational, and deeply relevant to current health concerns.
