The Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs organized a workshop on National Mine Action Strategy Plan 2016-2020 in collaboration with the National Mine Action Centre and Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD). The event was held on 14 March 2019 at Mövenpick Hotel, Colombo.
The workshop was conducted by Ms. Åsa Massleberg, Advisor, Statistic and Standard Division, GICHD with the assistance of Mrs. S Jaladeepan, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement & Rehabilitation, Northern Province Development, Vocational Training & Skills Development and Youth Affairs.
The main objectives of this session was to discuss matters pertinent to mobilization of resources effectively among the stakeholders of demining in Sri Lanka such as the SLA-HDU, MAG, HALO Trust, DASH, SHARP and the Regional Mine Action Office Kilinochchi; while focusing on the strategic objectives of the National Mining Strategic Plan 2016 to 2020. During this workshop emphasize was given to the five main pillars of HDM which are, demining, Mine Risk Education (MRE), Victim assistance, Advocacy and Stockpile destruction. The Commander Engineer Brigade Brigadier AN Amarasekara USP ndu conducted a comprehensive presentation on stockpile destruction which was appreciated by all gathered. Further he was a member of the panel discussion which judged the day’s session.
SLA HDU team at the workshop was represented by Operational Manger Lieutenant Colonel CD Wickramanayake WV RSP SLE, Field Operation Officer Major AJ Gunawardana SLE and Global Information System Officer Captain OK Wijegoonawardane SLE.
