A special programme for commemoration of International Women’s day organized by Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers was held yesterday (8 March 2021) at the Convention Centre, Mattegoda, under the patronage of the Chairperson of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch, Mrs Shiromi Amarasekara. The day’s programme lined up with prosthetic limb donation for differently abled soldiers, Plant distribution and a psychological lecture for Seva Vanitha members.
During the donation, 9 x prosthetic legs worth of Rs. 710, 030.00 was donated to differently abled war heroes. The donation sponsored by Major General (Retired) Sudantha Ranasinghe, Mr Thushan Dias, Mr Prasad Lokupitiya, Mrs Nilmini Basnayake and fund sources were coordinated by the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Chief Field Engineer Major General Nihal Amarasekara, Surasa Ranaviru Fund, Centre Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Brigadier Mangala Mayadunna and the Staff Officer 1, Veterans’ Affairs, Lieutenant Colonel Thissa Herath.
Later, as a environmental care project, 5 x Jasmin plants were symbolically distributed among the office bearers of the Seva Vanitha Branch - SLE by Mrs Mihiri Abeywickrama, the manager Bank of Ceylon, Mattegoda Branch and at end of the day’s programme, rest of the plants were distributed among the all participants.
The climax of the day’s event was occurred with the arrival of the guest lecturer, Psychiatrist and Psychology Consultant, Mrs Ama Dissanayake. She was able to enrich the participants with her own experiences and delivered valuable tips on being a dutiful woman, mother and a military wife. Spouses of the officers of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and Lady Officers also gathered to experience this fruitful event.
