SEVA VANITHA BRANCH CORPS OF ENGINEERS AWARDED 100 SCHOLARSHIPS FOR THE CHILDREN OF DECEASED AND DIFFERENTLY ABLED WAR HEROES

Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Engineers organized a programme to award 100 scholarships for the children of deceased and differently abled war heroes families. The scholarship awarding ceremony was held at Corps Headquarters on 14 August 2018 and Lieutenant General N U M M W Senanayake RWP RSP VSV USP USACGSC the Commander of the Army and Mrs Chandrika Senanayake the President of Army Seva Vanitha Unit graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

On the request made by the Maj Gen D D U K Hettiarrachchi RSP VSV USP ndu psc Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineers and Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna, Brother Anton Charles Thomas founder Dhaham Pahana foundation, organized the scholarship programme. Mr Ranjan Walpola and Mrs Renuka Walpola sponsored the programme and 100 students were gifted Rs 1000.00 newly opened bank accounts till they complete their higher education and a school bag.

The event commenced lighting the traditional oil lamp and followed observance silence for 2 minutes to remembrance the war heroes. A documentary video was screened on Sappers contribution to Humanitarian Operation and Nation Building activities. Subsequently, Brother Charles delivered a thought provoking speech and followed by the awarding of scholarships. Mementos were presented to the donors and Brother Charles Thomas in the appreciation of their generous donation by the Commander of the Army.

Mrs Ajantha Hettiarrachchi, the president of Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Engineers, members of Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Engineers, senior officers and officers and large gathering of Other Ranks of the Corps graced the occasion.
