SECOND LIEUTENANT J M MUHANDIRAMGE SLE BECOMES OVERALL FIRST IN SRI LANKA ARMY OFFICERS ANNUAL MARATHON 2016

Second Lieutenant J M Muhandiramge SLE of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers swept the board in the \'Sri Lanka Army Officers Annual Marathon 2016\' held on Sunday, 6 March 2016 at Panagoda.\r\n\r\nThe aim of the marathon was to maintain physical standards and develop spirit de corps of the officers pertaining to the team work. This marathon was held as per the ranks and there were two events as per the Officers rank structure. The results of both the events were considered for overall winner. The distance for the marathon was as follows;\r\n\r\nBrigadier, Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel category - 6.4Km\r\nMajor and below category - 14.4Km\r\n\r\nA few more than 450 marathon runners, representing Sri Lanka Army, took part in the marathon was commenced from general area Meepe to Mutthukumaru Cricket Ground, Army cantonment, Panagoda. Second Lieutenant J M Muhandiramge SLE, became the overall first clocking 54 minutes and 1 second.\r\n\r\nColonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General H C P Goonetilleke RSP VSV USP ndc psc extended his greetings to the overall winner and the sappers team. He further assured his support to sapper officers marathon team in future too. The Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lieutenant General A W J C de Silva RWP VSV USP ndu psc, senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present at the event. Finally at the award ceremony, trophies and merit awards were awarded to the winners.\r\n
