2019 South Asian Games, which is biennial multi-sport event held among the athletics from the South Asia, organized by South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) was held in Kathmandu & Pokhara, Nepal from 1 to 10 December 2019.
27 games were being played in the 2019 iteration of South Asian Games by seven member countries namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Sappers who represented Sri Lanka at the SAG have brought fame to motherland and honour to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers by winning one silver medal and two bronze medals in Karate & Shooting events. In the individual Kumthe category below 67 kg, Lance Corporal Silva SHKL of 1 Fd Engineers won the silver medal and in team kata category, Lance Corporal Dayananda TGTC of 11 Fd Engineers won the bronze medal. Lance Corporal Herby Karunathilaka DDF of 12 Fd Engineers won the bronze medal in 25m rapid fire pistol team event.
The Sappers’ team was warmly welcomed by the Regimental Sports Officer, Captain GM Karunatathne at Bandaranayake International Airport and large gathering of Army personals, journalists, relations, friends and well-wishers were presented at the occasion.
