SAPPERS OF RESCUE AND RELIEF CONTINGENT TO NEPAL RETURNS HOME

Having kept the Sri Lankan National Flag flying for 16 days while showing earthquake-affected Nepalese that ‘As a country you are not isolated’, the Troops of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers with Tri-service rescue and relief contingent, returned home at around 2150 hrs on 11 May 2015 at the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport. The rescue and relief contingent comprised of 6 Sapper Officers and 50 Other Ranks. Brigadier HJS Gunawardene RSP USP psc, commander engineer brigade held the appointment of Deputy Commander of the contingent which was among the first three foreign relief contingents to arrive in Nepal. At the arrival to the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport troops were received by Chief Field Engineer and Centre Commandant which they were brought straight away to the Regimental Headquarters to accommodations with good.
