SAPPERS ARE PROBING TO RE-CLAIM THE LOST GLORY

The Army Inter Regiment Wrestling Tournament 2020 concluded at Gymnasium, Panagoda on 09 January 2020 amid a gathering of wrestling fans.

A total of Eight Regimental teams, comprised of 120 wrestlers competed for supremacy in the four-day tournament, organized by the Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Association, chaired by Major General BVDP Abeynayaka USP ndu. Major General LM Mudalige, Commander Security Forces Headquarters (West) graced the finals as the Chief Guest.

Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) wrestlers were adjudged as Champions while Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) became the runners-up. And Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers became as second runners up.

Sapper Chandima PB of 11 SLE became the Best Wrestler and Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers secured 3 Gold Medals, 1 Silver medal and 2 Bronze medals. Names of the Sappers who achieved medals as follows:

Lance Corporal Sampath Kumara - Gold Medal - 86 kg Weight Class
Lance Corporal Chandrasekara RR - Silver Medal - 57 kg Weight Class
Lance Corporal Rupasinghe RAATI - Bronze Medal - 61 kg Weight Class
Corporal Bogahawaththa R - Bronze Medal - 125 kg Weight Class

The Chief Guest, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Wrestling Association and Brigadier Ravindra Dias, the Centre Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers gave away the trophies to the winners and runners-up.
