12 Field Engineer Regiment has redeployed in Pitigala, Elpitiya area under 612 Infantry Brigade from 16 to 18 August 2020 from Army Cantonment Panagoda as a new deployment plan of Army Headquarters to undertake infantry duties and relived 20 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment for their new redeployment in Katharagama area. 12 Field Engineer Regiment was located Army Cantonment Panagoda and carried out Field and Plant engineering duties in SFHQ (West) area before redeployed in Pitigala.
The Commanding Officer 12 Field Engineer Regiment, Major GJP De Silva SLE commenced duties at the new location by hoisting unit flag in front of all Officers and Other Ranks of the unit and signed a formal document while chanting sethpirith by Maha Sanga at auspicious time on 22 August 2020.
12 Field Engineer Regiment is responsible for security and maintain normalcy in the area, search and rescue, riot control and civil military coordination in the area of responsibility. The unit is responsible for nine Divisional secretariat divisions in Kalutara district covering approximately 1227.58 Square Kilometers.
