In response to a compelling request from the Airport and Aviation Service of Sri Lanka, the Commander of the Army initiated a remarkable training endeavor. Under the direct and vigilant guidance of the esteemed Chief Field Engineer, the dynamic alliance between the Army Engineer Division and the proficient 14 CBRNE Response Regiment unfolded an extensive series of training sessions. The primary objective of these sessions was to fortify the knowledge and skills of trainers engaged in the Aviation Security Course. This collaborative effort heralds a new era of preparedness and safety within Sri Lanka's aviation sector.
On November 4, 2023, a total of 145 trainers gathered for a day that would significantly enhance their understanding of aviation security. The curriculum was comprehensive, delving into the fundamentals of security, the basics of explosives and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and the critical knowledge of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) threats related to airport security.
The highlight of the training was the unique opportunity provided to the trainers. They not only received informative lectures but were also given hands-on experience with samples of explosives and a dummy IED. This practical exposure was invaluable in helping them to understand the real-world challenges and threats they may encounter in the field. In addition to this, trainers had the privilege of inspecting the cutting-edge Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and CBRN equipment used by the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment, providing a firsthand look at the tools and technology employed to ensure safety.
The sessions were expertly guided by the Chief Field Engineer, and the close supervision of Colonel General Staff (Overlooking) of the Engineer Division and the Commanding Officer of the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment ensured that the trainers received the most valuable insights and guidance. These esteemed individuals not only oversaw the proceedings but also conducted enlightening lectures themselves, adding an extra layer of expertise to the training.
The training team at the Aviation Center was not just appreciative but deeply grateful for the support extended by the Commander of the Army. This remarkable collaboration was made possible within a short timeframe, demonstrating the Army's dedication to strengthening the knowledge base of the trainers. A special word of thanks was extended to Colonel Commandant and the Chief Field Engineer, who played instrumental roles in facilitating this partnership.
The collaborative efforts between the military and civil aviation sectors in Sri Lanka have yielded a training program that stands as a shining example of commitment to safety and preparedness. The sessions not only enhanced the trainers' knowledge but also showcased the importance of cross-sector cooperation in ensuring the highest level of aviation security. Sri Lanka, with such initiatives, continues to set a remarkable standard in the realm of aviation security, fostering a safer and more resilient future.
