The Passing out Parade and certificate awarding ceremony of the Bomb and Improvised Explosive Devices Disposal (BIEDD) Course Number - 08 got underway at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) on 04 October 2024. The Commander Security Forces (West) and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General Lanka Amarapala RWP RSP ndc psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Overlooking Commandant of the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering, Colonel J A C S Jagoda psc.
Prior to the passing out parade, the Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by the Overlooking Commandant on his arrival and accorded with a Guard Turnout. Later on, the Vision and Mission Corner was unveiled by the Chief Guest and the statue erected under the guidance of himself. The subsequent proceedings were then lined up as per the programme.
The Ceremony was unfolded with Improvised Explosive Devices Disposal demonstration conducted by the students. Following the demonstration, the Chief Guest pinned prestigious Bomb Disposal insignias on the passing out students along with the Overlooking Commandant. The dignified ceremony celebrated the graduation of 1 Officer and 23 Soldiers of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.
The event also featured the presentation of trophies and certificates to the newly passed out Explosive Ordnance Disposal Operators who excelled in BIEDD course number – 08. Major General Lanka Amarapala congratulated and extended best wishes to the newly passed out students during his address.
The recipients of the following awards were specially commended for their extraordinary performance exhibited during the training period at the SLSME.
a. The First in Order of Merit - Captain NRJ Thudawahewa SLE
b. The Second in Order of Merit -Lance Coporal Ariyarathna BMSL
c. The Third in Order of Merit - Sapper Sampath GI
Presence of Major General D B L Colonne USP, Major General T C Peiris RSP USP - Commander Sri Lanka Army Engineer Divisioin, Brigadier S P G Gamage RWP RSP USP – Deputy General Officer Commanding - 12 Infantry Division, Colonel B A M P Balasooriya RSP – Overlooking Centre Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Colonel K A S J Kodithuwakku USP ptsc – Commander Plant Engineer Brigade added more colors to the event.
