NORTH EAST DEVELOPMENTS BY THE 1 FIELD ENGINEERS

‘Sirisara Pivisuma’ is one of the foremost development project underway in Trincomalee district, under the direction and supervision of the Presidential Secretariat in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army.

Under this project, many development programmes have been launched to uplift the living standards of the people of the Trincomalee district. Construction of infrastructures including construction of Elephant fence to curtail the struggle between human and Elephants, development of rural roads and renovation of tanks are the main components of this project.

1 Field Engineer Regiment has been playing a vital role since the inception of the project by employing its troops and machinery. So far, 1 Fied Engineer Regiment has contributed to renovate more than 40 tanks, construct 6 roads and construct the elephant fence for more than 50km. For the construction of the elephant fence, strong concrete posts, manufactured by the 1 Field Engineer Regiment, have been used instead of tree trunks. Recently, the renovation of Galapitawewa and Wiralmadu tanks in Padavi Sripura area have been completed and handed over to the Mahasen Farmers' Association.
