INTER REGIMENT GOLF TOURNAMENT WAS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AT ARMY GOLF CLUB DIYATALAWA

With the aim of identifying skillful golfers among the Corps of Engineers, Inter Regiment Golf tournament - 2020 was Organized by 6 Field Engineer Regiment on 10th and 11th September at Army Golf Club Diyatalawa.

15 Officers and 60 Other Ranks were undergone a one day training camp prior to the competition with the Participation of qualified golfers From Army Golf Club. Tournament was conducted under 8 different categories. In the Men’s team event 10 Field Engineer Regiment won the Championship and 1 Field Engineer Regiment won the runners up. 4 (V) Sri Lanka Engineers won the Championship in Ladies team event.

Sapper Manranga SKM from 14 CBRN and Sapper Ranaweera RMGDI from 15 (V) Sri Lanka Engineers won the Frist places in Men’s and Ladies open events. Major Sampath Bandara and Captain Prabath Wickramarathna shared The Frist place in Officer’s Open category. Brigadier Pradeep Gunawardane and Major Sampath Mallawage clinched the Championships in over 50 and over 40 age categories. Lieutenant Colonel Jeewa Wickramarachchi was the best Commanding Officer in the tournament.

The tournament was well organized by 6 Field Engineer Regiment and it was followed by a colorful prize awarding Ceremony at the Squash Court Complex, Mattegoda. The Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant, Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General Jagath Gunawardena graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Additional Director DHQC Project Management Unit, Major General Kuma Peiris, Chief Field Engineer, Major General Nihal Amarasekara and the Chief Guest, Major General Jagath Gunawardane presented the Medals, Certificates and Trophies to the winners. Tournament encourages the Sapper golfers to face the upcoming Army Golf Tournament with winning spirit.
