FIRST EVER "PITCH AND PUTT GOLF COURSE" IN SRI LANKA WAS INTRODUCED TO SAPPERS LEISURE BAY.

Sappers training site of watermanship, bridging, and practical exercise area was renamed in the year 2014 as "Sappers Leisure Bay" (SALEBA) with the construction of the swimming pool. Subsequently, to fulfill the physical training requirement and for sports, SALEBA was rapidly expanded and infrastructure was improved for racket games. In recent times to undertake tasks of post-conflict nation-building the training area was expanded for soil science, agrostology, water management, and ground maintenance.

As a result of preparation for practical of agrostology and land for sports, especially to support Sappers Golf Team, which won the 2019 Inter Regiment Golf Tournament, first-ever "Pitch and Putt Golf Course" in Sri Lanka was introduced to SALEBA by Colonel Commandant of Corps of Engineers Major General Jagath Gunawardena adding more value to the training site and to learn many lessons from the game of golf.

The Golf Hut which was constructed for the utility was declared open on 12 November 2020 keeping with COVID -19 safety guidelines with the participation of Major General Nihal Amarasekara - Chief Field Engineer, Major General Nishantha Herath - Director General Training, Major General Chandana Wijeyasundera - General Officer Commanding, Engineer Division, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks.
