The Field Engineer Brigade proudly celebrated Poson Poya Day on 10 June 2025, marking a deeply spiritual and culturally significant occasion for Buddhists across Sri Lanka. This annual festival commemorates the historic arrival of Buddhism to the island in the 3rd century BC, an event that continues to shape the spiritual and cultural fabric of the nation.
This year’s celebration, held under the guidance of the Commander of the Field Engineer Brigade, was organized with the wholehearted support of the 8 Field Engineer Regiment. The event began with a solemn and symbolic ceremony, where Colonel T. M. Piros Jalal, Colonel Project of the Field Engineer Brigade, officially opened the proceedings.
The opening was marked by a special Bana Deshanaya on Poson Poya Day, followed by the lighting of 350 traditional oil lamps in the evening, symbolizing the dispelling of darkness and the enlightenment brought by the Buddha’s teachings. This sacred act set the tone for a day of reverence, unity, and cultural appreciation.
A key highlight of the celebration was the meticulous preparation and decoration of the Mihintale Anuruwa, located in front of the Field Engineer Brigade. This sacred site was adorned with devotion by the personnel of both the Field Engineer Brigade and the 8 Field Engineer Regiment, whose efforts reflected not only discipline and teamwork but also a deep respect for Sri Lanka’s Buddhist heritage.
As Poson Poya continues to be a cornerstone of Sri Lankan identity, the Field Engineer Brigade’s thoughtful and well-coordinated celebration serves as a shining example of how institutions can meaningfully contribute to the spiritual and cultural life of the nation.
