FAMILIARIZATION TRAINING FOR HANDHELD DETECTORS (VMR3 MINE HOUNDS) DONATED TO SRI LANKA CORPS OF ENGINEERS THROUGH UNITED STATES GRANT AID ASSISTANCE

In significant step towards enhancing mine detection capabilities in Sri Lanka Army, a familiarization training programme for donated Handheld Detectors (VMR3 Mine Hounds) was successfully conducted by Mr Markus Sautter on 05 to 07 June 2024. The VMR3 Mine Hound detectors, a sophisticated tool combining Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and Metal Detection Technologies, were donated through United States Grant Aid Assistance to enhance institutional capacity building for United Nations peacekeeping missions.

This programme was held at the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division, Mattegoda. Six Officers and thirteen Other Rankers participated to this training programme. This training aimed to equip soldiers with effective and efficient handling and maintenance of VMR3 Mine Hounds. The completion of this training marks a pivotal enhancement in the operational capabilities of Sri Lanka Army. This initiative reflects the strong defense cooperation between United States and Sri Lanka, contributing significantly to regional security and stability.
