EOD INSTRUCTOR TEAM OF CORPS OF ENGINEERS SRI LANKA ARMY COMMENCES BOMB AND IMPROVISED EXPLOSIVE DEVICE DISPOSAL ADVANCE COURSE FOR MALDIVES NATIONAL DEFENCE FORCE (MNDF) STUDENTS

The Advance Bomb and Improvised Explosive Device Disposal Training (BIEDDT) Course for Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) personnel were commenced on 5 January 2020 by the Sri Lanka Army Instructor Team currently deployed at Maldives. The training module is designed to train MNDF Officers and Soldiers on handling and disposal of Bombs, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Unexploded Ordnance (UXOs) enabling students to undertake any disposal task as technically and tactically qualified IEDD Handlers.

The advanced EOD and IEDD Techniques Tactics and Procedures (TTPs) are intended to impart during the six weeks comprehensive training module. The BIEDDT Advance Course will cover the lessons of Demolitions, IEDs, Advance Mine Warfare, Destruction of Arms and Ammunitions allowing students to attend theoretical classes and maximum practical training sessions. Twenty one students including an officer, Senior Non Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) and Non Commissioned Officers (NCOs) representing the various services of MNDF are selected to attend the advance course.

The opening ceremony of the course was held at MNDF Central Area Headquarters Laamu, Kadhdhoo and Col Ibrahim Hilmy represented the Chief of Defence Force (CDF), MNDF and delivered the key note address appreciating the training opportunity given by the Sri Lanka Army. He further extended his sincere gratitude for the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers for his invaluable assistance to build the EOD capabilities in the MNDF. Senior officers and Other Ranks of MNDF Central Area Headquarters were presented at the opening ceremony. The six weeks long training course is scheduled to be concluded on 18 February 2020. Lieutenant Colonel Chandana Wickramanayake Colonel Project Engineer Brigade is coordinating the training programme as the Head of the Training Team and the instructor team is constituted with five officers and five Other Ranks of the Corps Sri Lanka Engineers.
