THE DREAM OF SAPPER SAMANTHA MADE A REAL BY THE SEVA VANITHA BRANCH CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS

Sapper Samantha and his family received their dream house. The key was handed over after simple ceremony held on 29 January 2020 at Ritiketiya where the house was constructed.

S/4B00970 Spr Samantha A of 4 (V) Engineers, enlisted to the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force on 16 December 1986 and discharged from the army on 28 February 2002 due to medical reasons with a disability pension. Sapper Samantha is a married one and he blessed with a son and two daughters. He had a piece of land which was offered by the government at Ranawiru Village, Ritiketiya, Meegama. Nevertheless he was unable to build a house in his property owing to their economic hardships. The family spent their life in a small hut covered with wood and later his children were admitted in several children’s homes to relieve them from their extremely difficult lifestyle.

Finally, the dream of Sapper Samantha and his family became reality due to the donation made by Mrs Damayanthi Kariyawasam, with the invitation of the president Seva Vanitha Branch Corps f Sri Lanka Engineers Mrs Sagara Gunawardena. The fund sources coordinated by Commander Plant Engineer Brigade, Brigadier Pradeep Gunawardena and the house which donated was constructed by the troops of 4 (V) Engineer Regiment.

The Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and the Colonel Commandant Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Maj Gen Jagath Gunawardena, the President Seva Vanitha Branch Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Mrs Sagara Gunawardena, members of the Seva Vanitha Branch, Commanding Officer, 4(V) Engineer Regiment, Major Piros Jalal, Officers and Other Rankers of the Corps attended the event.
