DONATION OF EOD LEVEL 01 EQUIPMENT TO CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS BY THE EMBASSY OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

In a significant gesture of international cooperation and support, the United States Embassy in Sri Lanka donated a comprehensive consignment of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Level 01 equipment to the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers. The formal handover ceremony took place on 30 June 2025 at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) premises in Embilipitiya, marking a new chapter in military technical collaboration between the two nations.

This valuable consignment of EOD equipment had been specifically requested by the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering, recognizing a critical need for modern tools to enhance practical training capabilities. The procurement and coordination process was carried out in close collaboration with the Sri Lanka Army Engineer Division and the Office of the Chief Field Engineer (CFE), ensuring the successful and timely delivery of the equipment and the event was graced by four US military officials, whose presence underscored the importance and mutual commitment to enhance regional security and capacity building. The Commandant of SLSME, Colonel JACS Jagoda psc, along with Chief Instructor Major NLD Widanage USP SLE and all Officers of SLSME extended a warm and respectful welcome to the visiting officials.

These EOD Level 01 Equipment will greatly improve practical trainings of sappers at the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME), helping them to learn safe detection and neutralizing of explosive threats in both military and humanitarian situations. After the official handover, the U.S. delegation and SLSME officers inspected the equipment to confirm its quality and completeness.

Furthermore, the U.S. delegation plans to launch the first EOD Level 01 training courses at SLSME using the donated Equipment, with the aim of building local expertise and expand training capacity. During their visit, the delegation team visited SLSME’s training facilities, which showcased the school’s technical advancements and commitment to excellence.

This donation not only provides essential equipment for developing skilled EOD personnel but also strengthens the defense partnership between the United States and Sri Lanka, supporting regional peace and security. Finally, SLSME expressed its sincere appreciation to all contributors for their strong support and shared vision for a safer future.
