DISASTER RESPONSE SQUADRON OF 14 CBRNE RESPONSE REGIMENT TACKLES WATER HYACINTH CRISIS IN BORALESGAMUWA TANK

In response to a request from the Disaster Management Center, an extraordinary mission was initiated under the guidance of the Colonel Commandant of the Regiment and the supervision of the CFE and Commander Engineer Division. The Disaster Response Squadron of 14 CBRNE Response Regiment, an elite unit, came forward to assist the Irrigation Department in a monumental task – the removal of water hyacinth from the Boralesgamuwa Tank.

The task at hand required meticulous planning and execution, and it was closely supervised by the Commanding Officer of the 14 CBRNE Response Regiment. The dedicated efforts of 1 x 8 troops from the Disaster Response Squadron, who participated in this operation, spanned an impressive 30-day period.

The Regional Irrigation Engineer of Boralesgamuwa was effusive in his praise for the assistance provided by these troops. Their hard work, dedication, and expertise were instrumental in successfully tackling the water hyacinth crisis. The removal of this invasive plant not only restored the functionality of the Boralesgamuwa Tank but also contributed to safeguarding the local environment.

It's worth noting that the troops' contribution did not go unnoticed at higher levels. Special thanks was conveyed to the Commander of the Army and the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers for their exceptional support and invaluable service to the nation.
