CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS PRODUCES ITS THIRD COMMANDER OF THE ARMY
Lieutenant General A W J C De Silva RWP USP ndu psc, was appointed as the 21st Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, effective from February 22, 2015 by His Excellency the President. He goes in to history as 3rd Sapper Officer to earn this prestigious appointment.\r\nLieutenant General De Silva enlisted in the Army on 6 February 1980 and was commissioned in to 1 Field Engineer Regiment of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers as a 2nd Lieutenant on 18 July 1981, he subsequently rose to the ranks of Captain (1985), Major (1989), Lieutenant Colonel (1994), Colonel (1997), Brigadier (2003) and Major General on 30th November 2009. he was elevated to the rank of Lieutenant General upon assuming Office as the Commander of the Army on 22 February 2015.\r\nLieutenant General De Silva who counts over 35 years of distinguished service in the Army. He took office as the Chief of Staff on 1 August 2013 before before taking up an overseas assignment as Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow on 16 May 2014.\r\nLieutenant General Desamanya JED Perera VSV, D.Litt (Honoris Causa)) FCMI, FIMgt (SL) ndc psc is the first Sapper Officer who commanded the Sri Lanka Army from 14 Oct 1977 to 13 Oct 1981. Lieutenant General GDGN Seneviratne VSV ndc of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers commanded the Army from 12 Feb 1985 to 15 Aug1988.\r\nLieutenant General AWJC De Silva is an old boy of Royal College Colombo 7.
