CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS MARKS ITS 69TH REGIMENTAL ANNIVERSARY WITH GRANDIOSE CEREMONY TO COMMEMORATE WAR HEROES

Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers commenced the celebration of 69TH Anniversary of its founding day on 10 November 2020 with the Ceremony to revere fallen war heroes of the Regiment.

Primes event of the Celebration Programme was held at the Regimental Centre premises, Panagoda with the gracious participation of the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General Jagath Gunawardena as the Chief Guest. Major General Jagath Gunawardena on his arrival to the Corps Headquarters was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant, Brigadier Mangala Mayadunna and accorded with a Guard Turn out. Afterwards, he laid a floral wreath to the war heroes’ monument and then he was bestowed with a parade.

Afterwards the Chief Guest marked the commencement of the years long customary proceedings to pay tribute to fallen heroes of the Regiment during catastrophic conflict.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks headed by Major General Jagath Gunawardena, the Chief of Staff and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers as the Chief Guest took part in the commemorative wreath-laying ceremony plus lighting of the monument lamp. The Religious observances, singing of the National Anthem, Army Song and the Engineer Song followed by two-minute silence plus the reading of the narration dominated the day’s proceedings.

Amid melancholic melodies of bag pipers, the floral wreaths were laid by Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks who were present there. A display of ‘Rana Bera’ beating as another memory added colour to the occasion and the Last Post was played to observe military ritual of commemorating those who have killed in war.

The programme was conducted adhering to health safety guidelines and social distancing practices.
