CORPS OF SRI LANKA ENGINEERS BIDS FAREWELL FOR RETIRING COLONEL COMMANDANT

A Farewell for retiring Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, was held on 27 January 2018 at Corps Headquarters. A large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers and the Other Ranks attended the event. Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe enlisted to the Army on 31 August 1981, as an Officer Cadet to the Sri Lanka Military Academy and served more than 37 years in the Army. During his illustrious Military career he held number of Key appointments in the Sri Lanka Army including Military Secretary, Commander Security Forces (Kilinochchi), Commander Security Forces (West) and the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers.

Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe on his arrival to the Corps Headquarters was warmly welcomed by the overlooking Centre Commandant, Colonel Lanka Amarapala and accorded with a Guard Turn out. Afterwards, he laid a floral wreath to the war heroes' monument in remembrance of war heroes who made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the Motherland. Subsequently he was bestowed with a Parade. After the Parade, the day’s Chief Guest planted a Mango sapling in front of the Corps Headquarters building, symbolizing his last visit as the Colonel Commandant. Afterwards, all the distinguished invitees attended for a tea at Warrant Officers’ and Sergeant’s Mess. Thereafter, the day’s Chief Guest attended for the Council protocol. Subsequently, All Officers gathered for All Ranks Lunch at newly constructed utility building. After the All Rank lunch, the street linings consist of All Officers and Other Ranks greeted as "Jaya Sri" for the outgoing Colonel Commandant. As per the Military traditions and the customs retiring Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe was hosted a Farewell Dinner at the Officers’ Mess. Large gathering of Senior Officers, Officers attended to the Farewell Dinner along with their spouses.
