The finals in the Army Inter Regiment Judo Championship - 2019 and the prize awarding ceremony was held on 24th January 2020 at Panagoda Army Cantonment Gymnasium.
The Inter Regiment Judo Tournament was held under 'Team' and 'Individual' categories to comply with weight categories. There were 17 Regiments of the Army competed in the Judo tournament during 19-24 January 2020.
Championship in the novices’ category, Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps secured the championship while Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers team won the runners-up by scoring 21 marks.
Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers team secured 2 Gold Medals, 4 Silver medal and 2 Bronze medals. Names of the Sappers who achieved medals as follows:
Sapper Abeyrathne DMIS - Gold Medal - 100 kg Weight Class
Sapper Bandara SMN - Gold Medal - 50 kg Weight Class
Lance Corporal Rathnayake RYL - Silver Medal - 100 kg Weight Class
Sapper Ranaweera EGIP - Silver Medal - 50 kg Weight Class
Sapper Godamunna PR - Silver Medal - 60 kg Weight Class
Sapper Ranmandala RGHM - Silver Medal - 66 kg Weight Class
Sapper Ashan HMS - Bronze Medal - 66 kg Weight Class
Sapper Wijesinghe WSPV - Bronze Medal - 81 kg Weight Class
The winners arrived to Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers headquarters on 27 January 2020 and regimental sport officer Captain Karunarathne warmly welcomed them. Finally, the regimental judo team got the compliments from the Centre Commandant Brigadier Ravindra Dias and he congratulated them on their achievements.
