CORPORAL PATHIRANA MPJS WON THE MOST OUTSTANDING SPORTSMAN OF THE YEAR - SHOOTING AT THE PRESIDENTIAL SPORTS AWARDS 2015

The Presidential Sports Awards – 2015 was held with the participation and patronage of His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena, Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe & Hon. Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekara on the 18th of May 2016 at the Bandaranayake Memorial International Convention Hall (BMICH).\r\n\r\nThis event organized to recognized sportsmen and sportswomen who have achieved sporting excellence in the year of 2015.\r\n\r\nS/240656 Corporal Pathirana MPJS of 6th Field Engineers Regiment was awarded the Most Outstanding sportsman of the Year – Shooting by His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena in recognition of sporting excellence and achievements.\r\n\r\nCorporal Pathirana MPJS joined the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers on 21st October 2001 and reached to Regimental level, Army Level, National level and thereafter International level in the field of shooting. He was selected for the 2014 and 2015 National Championship and in the 12th South Asian Games, where he secured three Bronze Medals.\r\n\r\nHe has become champion for 50 metres pre pistol, 25 metres rapid fire pistol, 25 metres standard pistol, 10 metres air pistol events conducted by International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) from 2013 to 2015.\r\n\r\nHe has taken part in under mentioned international Championships;\r\n1) 9th Asian shooting championship 2014 India.\r\n2) 13th Asian shooting championship 2015 Kuwait.\r\n3) 14th Asian shooting championship and Olympic Qualification Championship 2015 India.\r\n4) 12th South Asian Games 2016 India.\r\n\r\nFrom 2002-2007, he was selected as Best private, Best Lance Corporal, Best Corporal and Best novicer in both Engineers Regimental level and Army level.\r\n\r\nBeing a part of a Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers which has a great history in the field of sports, Corporal Pathirana has contributed to uplift shooting to new heights.\r\n
