COLONEL COMMANDANT SALUTE LATE CAPTAIN DJ PALANDAGE’S FINAL JOURNEY

The military funeral of Captain DJ Palandage SLE (Retired), who had served the country for more than 43 years, took place 27 February 2023 evening at Kesbewa General Cemetery, amid a mammoth gathering of his military comrades and other mourners.

Major General MK Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief Field Engineer and Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, arrived at the crematorium to pay his last respects. Serving Senior Officers, Retired Officers, and other mourners were also there to salute the late officer as the dusk fell.

O/2654 Captain DJ Palandage SLE (Retired) belongs to the 4th Engineer Regiment (Volunteer) was an officer of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers who has devoted much of his life for the motherland.

Don John Palandage was born on 21 November 1934 and he completed his education at Palanoruwa Central College. He has joined to the Army Regular Force in the year 1952 as a recruit with the noble intention of protecting the unity of the motherland and he was posted to the 1 Field Engineer Regiment. After completing 25 years of service, he was retired on 23 November 1977 as a senior noncommissioned officer.

Later on, he was commissioned with the rank of Lieutenant on the basis of pay and pension. He was performed duties at the 4th Engineer Regiment (Volunteer) on 06 June 1986 and concluded his tenure on 30 April 1995 as a Captain.

Captain Palandage awarded with Armed Services Republic Medal, Army 25th Anniversary Medal, Purnabhoomi Medal and Armed Services Long Service Medal for his honest and efficient performance of every duty assigned to him from the time he joined the Army until his retirement. He is an officer who has rendered valuable service to the army by winning the hearts of all ranks.

After rendering invaluable service to the Corps, the Army and the entire country in general, he passed away on 25 February 2023 after being hospitalized due to a sudden illness while he was enjoying his retirement life with his family and relatives.
