The Corps of Engineer Services bade farewell to Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc the Commander Security Forces (Wanni) and the Colonel Commandant Sri Lanka Engineers upon his relinquishment of the appointment of Colonel Commandant Corps of Engineer Services on 9 August 2019.
He was received by Col K M S Kumara , the Centre Comdt CES at the Main Entrance of the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters and a guard of honour was accorded in honour of outgoing Colonel Commandant. Thereafter, Major Genral Jagath Gunawardena laid a floral wreath at the War Heroes’ Monument to pay his tribute to the fallen war heroes of the Corps and took the salute of the CES at a colorful ceremonial parade. Thereafter he relinquished the appointment of Colonel Commandant CES in his Office by signing handing over documents and addressed all the Officers present. He also paid a visit to WOs' and Sgts' Mess and addressed the Warrant Officers and Sergeants.
Subsequently all Officers and Other Ranks gathered for All Ranks Lunch at Other Ranks’ Mess. The ceremonial events culminated with a street lining given to Major General Jagath Gunawardena with farewell bids "Jaya Sri" by Officers and Other Ranks lined up in a row before he departed from the Regimental Headquarters of the Corps of Engineer Services as the outgoing Colonel Commandant. At the evening of the same day , according to military customs a Farewell Dinner was hosted at the Corps of Engineer Services Regimental Headquarters in honour of Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc. During this event two annual CES publications, “The Creators” magazine and the “Engineering Constructions Project Journal” which were the brainchild of Major General H J S Gunawardena RSP VSV USP ndc psc were launched.
Brig R Ganegoda psc the Director Engineer Services, Col K M S Kumara the Centre Commandant CES, Col S N Kithulgoda USP the Deputy Centre Comdt CES, Col GDHK Wijenayaka the Director (Projects & Construction) Civil Security Department, Col EADK Edirisinghe the Colonel Engineer Services Dte of ES and large number of Senior Officers and Officers participated with their spouses.
